Cat Candle With Metal Skeleton: Cute, Creepy, or Both?

As lovers of all types of candles, we here at Candle Junkies are always out searching for something new and exciting to satisfy our wax cravings. With tons of new DIYs‘ going on places like Pinterest each and every day, one might think it’s all been done by now in the world of candles. Well.. we for one were wrong. Enter Kisa, the cat candle with metal skeleton from a small company called PyroPet Candles.

Army of cat candles

The candles’ creator Thorunn Arnadottir says she came up with the idea for the candle when she was thinking about how people use candles.

“One day as I watched the chubby body of a jolly Santa Claus shaped candle slowly melt, deform, and perish into a sad pool of wax I wondered if I could elevate this common place ritual sacrifice into a true theatre of the macabre in wax.”

She decided to put a metal skeleton inside her wax cat candle.

“Cats have always had a split personality. One minute purring contentedly the next hissing and temperamental. While they are cute and huggable they have a dark side associated with witchcraft and sorcery. Kisa was created to capture this duality. Kisa performs a slowly unfolding transformation from cute kitty to brooding skeleton.”

She ended up teaming up with a man named Dan Kovaland and they began a kickstarter campaign to bring this fresh idea to the market.

Schrödingers box

The first thing we noticed when we took this candle out of the box was how big it actually was. This thing is around 7 inches tall and looks very well made. The candle won the Reykjavík Grapevine Design Awards 2014 for best product of 2013 and you can instantly see why. We almost didn’t want to burn the candle! But like a cat, curiosity finally got the better of us and we lit the wick.

The candle burned surprising quickly getting down to its base in just over 20 hours but to their credit, the whole point of the candle is to burn it and be able to watch as it reveals the skeleton within.
